susie derkins was a philadelphia pop band. susie loves her friends. susie is trying to love her life too.
samantha stoakes formed the project susie derkins (a reference to the calvin & hobbes comic books) in late 2016 as an excuse to perform waxahatchee songs at a halloween cover show in boston, massachusetts. after moving to philadelphia in early 2017, stoakes played as a solo lo-fi guitar act across the northeast before eventually teaming up with lead guitarist heeyoon won (boosegumps, free cake for every creature), bassist james walsh (dump him), and drummer allegra eidinger (allegra, adult mom). in 2019, the band recorded the how to talk EP, which came out on november 13, 2020. susie’s songs center around the fears and doubts that come with getting older, navigating a cold world, and wondering if your voice makes a difference.
